probiome
a field guide for the curious: the microbes that live in you, and what the research says about each.
why i built it
I'm in love with the science. The species that live inside us and make our lives better are one of the most interesting things we could study, and there's so much we still don't know about how these amazing microbes help us.
I'm obsessed with microbes everywhere, and the incredible things they do in the environment. But the ones that co-evolved with us, benefiting us and benefiting from us, are such an amazing idea. It ties into my love of nature: it's an incredible ecology.
what it is
A field guide for the curious. It started as a case study: what would it look like if it did get built? What data would it use? Then I couldn't stop pulling on the thread, and ended up building it, all the way down to the business model that would best give curious people and scientists a reason to contribute, to trust it, and to benefit from it.

A pipeline gathers public research on a schedule and builds the database. A small API and the SvelteKit site, both on Cloudflare Workers, serve it, with search that understands meaning as well as exact words.
